Poetry in simplicity! Beautiful agate beads hand strung in leather. Agate has been mined in the Cambay area of Gujarat since before the 15th century when Baba Ghor, an Ethiopian merchant, spotted an opportunity and settled in Cambay to begin a lucrative trade in the stones. In 1881, Dr Valentine Ball, an Irish-born geologist who worked 17 years in India before returning home to take up the post as Professor of Mineralogy at the University of Dublin, published a detailed and fascinating account of the agate-cutting industry at Khambat (Cambay) at the time.
