- Once native to the Arabian peninsula, aloe vera is now grown everywhere in the world including the Old Sage kitchen garden.
- Thulasi is grown in Hindu homes as a tradition. It is used for worship and in kitchen remedies for myriad ailments.
- The castor plant is very ornamental though the seeds are deadly poison. The oil is a different matter altogether. In Ayurveda, castor oil has cooling and astringent properties for the skin and is good for those of us living in tropical countries. It is yet another unsung hero in our apothecary as it is in all our soaps.
